Traditionally the Garden of Eden is this beautiful garden containing the tree of life where men and women were supposed to live in peaceful and contented innocence, effortlessly reaping the fruits of the Earth. For MaiYap, this garden is a symbol of paradise lost, of the all-elusive nature of happiness and peace, and of the end of innocence. By depicting nature as a whimsical magical place where all creatures: flora and fauna live in harmony, she wants to call attention to all what is beautiful and worth saving in our planet.
If we continue to produce, consume and power our lives the way we do right now, forests, oceans and weather systems will be overwhelmed and collapse. MaiYap’s Garden of Eden paintings are a call for action to nurture and preserve Earth for future generations to come.
